As we celebrate Amanda Seyfried’s 35th Birthday this week, we take a look back on the actress’s career and her best highlights.
Seyfried has achieved so much in her career, from winning the Satellite Award for Best Ensemble – Motion Picture for her performance in the 2012 film Les Miserables to winning the MTV Movie award for the best onscreen Duo for her performance of the iconic Karen Smith in the 2005 film Mean Girls.
10. Ted 2
2015 saw the release of TED 2, the second film in the film franchise where we saw Seyfried play Amanda Jackson, a young lawyer helping Ted and John (Mark Wahlberg) gain independence for Ted to adopt with his now happily married wife. The film offers 125 minutes of our favourite blonde and even brags her singing ability in a heart-warming campfire scene.
9. Pan
Although only a small role for the Hollywood actor, Seyfried played the role of Mary Darling in the 2015 hit alongside Hugh Jackman to tell the new and reimagined story of Peter Pan which made $128.4 million at the box office.
8. Love the Coopers
Love the Coopers the Christmas/ Comedy Rom-Com introduced the character of Ruby to us through our screens. The movie follows the annual Christmas celebrations of the Cooper family, the family, along with the friends they make throughout the film rediscover the importance of the spirit of holidays. Being a firm favourite on my Christmas movie marathon list.
7. Les Miserables
As the longest running musical in the West End and the second longest in the world, it was undoubtedly always going to be turned into a Hollywood film. In 2012 the movie came out with an all-star cast starring Anne Hathaway, Hugh Jackman, Eddie Redmayne, and Amanda Seyfried playing Cosette. The film boasted a win of three Golden Globes as well as eight Tony Awards.
6. Mamma Mia! Here we go again
In 2018 we were blessed with the sequel to Mamma Mia with Mamma Mia 2: Here we go again, and the movie did not disappoint. This time around we got a look back on beloved Donna’s life (played by Lily James) and the film does not disappoint with its 80s fashion.
5. Dear John
Dear John follows the story of soldier John Tyree (Channing Tatum) and college student Savannah Curtis (Amanda Seyfried) from their meeting through seven years of their relationship corresponding through letters. This movie gives us all the feels and only leaves us on a cliff hanger at the end with what happens next.
4. Jennifer’s Body
Jennifer’s body now recognised as a cult classic starring two female icons, Amanda Seyfried who plays Anita and Megan Fox playing Jennifer. This is obviously on our highlights of Seyfrieds career! The story is now a feminist classic, revived from its former flop on premiere. However, post the #MeToo movement the story of what happened to Jennifer became a mirror image for society as men sacrificing the body of a woman for their own professional advancement, and how men use the torment of women as a bonding activity.
It’s fair to say that Jennifer’s body will always be a feminist and cult classic.
3. Mean Girls
That’s so fetch! Seyfried stars as Karen Smith in the infamous 2004 teen comedy. Karen Smith is a member of the plastics and one of the main characters of Mean Girls. The character herself states she’s “kinda psychic” as we’re treated to a range of hilarious moments and witty one-liners by the icon herself. And personally, one of my favourite movies.
2. Mammia Mia
It’s practically impossible to hate Mamma Mia with its infectious sing along soundtrack and engaging story line. The movie follows Donna Sheridan(Meryl Streep) and daughter Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) on the run up to her wedding with the help of two old friends played by Julie Walters and Christine Baranski, Sophie secretly invites three of her possible fathers in the hope to meet her real father for her wedding day to walk her down the aisle.
Mamma Mia will always have a place as one of Seyfried’s best highlights.
1. Letters to Juliet
Taking the spot as my favourite Amanda Seyfried movie – and personally one of my favourite movies of all time. This slightly cheesy but completely lovable movie sweeps you off your feet and makes you not able to take your eyes off the screen. The romance story follows Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) visiting Verona with her busy fiancé. One day she visits the wall of Juliet Capulet where the heartbroken leave letters. Sophie finds one written from 1957 which leads her on a journey to write back to its now elderly author.
Amanda Seyfried now 35 has become an iconic figure in her own rights and we can’t wait to watch what movies she stars in next here at Platform!
