The best films of 2020

2020 has been a crazy year for everyone, but we have still seen the release of some fantastic films that you need to watch.

So to make sure you don’t miss out, here are the 10 best films that have been released this past year, despite all the chaos.

Tenet

If you are looking for an action-packed film, then look no further. Earlier this year Warner Brothers realised Tenet, – starring John David Washington, Robert Pattison, and Elizabeth Debicki. This follows the life of a secret agent who needs to complete his mission in order to prevent world war three. However if that wasn’t challenging enough, he also must be wary of espionage and time-bending manipulation along the way.

Honest Thief

Liam Neeson has starred in yet another crime action thriller, as the Honest Thief was released earlier this year. It follows the life of a notorious bank robber who wants to turn himself in and give back the money in exchange for a reduced sentence. He does this so he can spend what time he has left with the woman he loves, but this doesn’t go to plan when he is double crossed by two greedy FBI agents.

The Prom

This is the film we never knew how much we needed, as this musical is both dramatic, comical, and stars Meryl Streep, James Corden, and Nicole Kidman! The star-studded cast play a group of theatre stars that go to a small town to support a high school girl who wants to take her girlfriend to the prom, much to this conservative towns dismay.

Mulan

Everyone loves Disney’s live action remakes, and in the past, they have captured our hearts all over again with their new Cinderella and Maleficent creations. But this year they wowed us with their Mulan adaptation that brought the legendary warrior to life. Where a young girl bravely disguises herself as a male warrior so that she can save her father, but ultimately becomes one of Chinas greatest warriors.

Godmothered

Disney has again blessed our screens with Godmothered, starring Jillian Bell, June Squibb and Sonia Manzano. We follow the life of an unskilled fairy godmother, who decides to venture out on her own and help a girl whose request for help had been ignored. However the real world is not as magical as she expected, and her quest to help may be too little too late.

Freaky

We all know that High School is a metaphorical blood bath, but that becomes literal in this comedy horror! A sweet girl switches bodies with a serial killer, and only has 24 hours before the change becomes permanent. She teams up with her friends to help, meanwhile the butcher in her body is using the high school as the perfect hunting ground.

Ava

This crime action drama follows the life of Ava, a deadly assassin who travels all over the world carrying out high profile assassinations. However whilst working for a black ops organisation one of Ava’s jobs go dangerously wrong, and she is left fighting for her own survival…

Happiest Season

This festive rom com stars Hollywood A-listers, including Kristen Stewart, Daniel Levy, Mary Steenburgen, and Victor Garber. It follows the life of Harper who is trying to be true to herself and not ruin Christmas whilst seeking her family’s acceptance. However this holiday, everyone’s secrets are coming out…

Greenland

This film follows a family and their quest for survival when a planet-killing comet in racing towards Earth. However whilst trying to find safety in the face of this cataclysmic natural disaster they witness the best and worst of humanity as the panic sets in.

Mank

This is a film like no other following the life of Herman J. Mankiewicz as he writes the screenplay of Citizen Kane. To add to the time period it has also been entirely shot in black and white, and stars many well-known names, including Gary Oldman, Amanda Seyfried and Lilly Collins.

These are just a few of all the films that have been released this year, and next year should be even better. As many blockbusters were postponed due to the pandemic will be released next year, including No time to Die.
