It’s almost that time of year again, for the fans of all things geek to gather in Nottingham’s Motorpoint Arena to show off costume skills, do a bit of shopping and meet their celebrity heroes…
The convention will take place over the weekend of May 4 and 5 and is the perfect place to nerd out at the various stalls of merchandise from your favourite TV shows, movies and games.
Excited? Lee Wallis, CEO of EM-Con Events, said: “2019 is a big year for us as it’s the 5th year we’ve been at the Motorpoint Arena.
“I’m looking forward to marking that with our biggest event yet.”
Doors will open to the public at 11am with early access to the dedicated fans with one of the many exclusives passes.
Who’s going to be there?
One of the main reasons people attend comic conventions is to have a chat or even get an autograph with their favourite celebrities and 25 have already been announced with potential for more.
Here are our top five guests for this year’s EM-Con:
Nick Frost – Shaun of the Dead, Into the Badlands, Paul and Hot Fuzz
Benedict Wong – Doctor Strange, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Prometheus
Brent Spiner – Star Trek, Independence Day, Warehouse 13
Jimmy Vee – Star Wars, Doctor Who, Harry Potter
Sylvester McCoy – Doctor Who. The Hobbit, Sense
As well as the media guests you’ll have the chance to see these nostalgic attractions such as Back to the Future DeLorean, Street Hawk, The Tardis and Dalek and The East Midland Garrison Attraction.
Photos and Autographs
Want something to treasure the moment you met your favourite star on the big screen? Then why not buy an autograph or book a photoshoot?
All autographs are available from the guest tables – they can be on your own memorabilia or choose from a selection of photographs to be signed, and prices will vary from guest to guest.
If you’re not content with that then you can also stand side by side with your favourite celeb for a few pics. Prices will vary between each guest and can be booked in advance online but also purchased on the day.
The EM-Con cosplay competition
You will also have the chance to show off your craftsmanship in the cosplay competition taking place on the Sunday of that weekend.
Get out on the stage, strike some poses and then answer some questions from the judges. Be the best and you can win £100 for the adult contest and £30 for the children’s contest.
This is open to all ages and for costumes of all genres, to enter put your name down on the entry sheet by the Geek Asylum table and then head to the Q&A room for 12pm.
Make sure to read the official cosplay guidelines and rules on EM-Cons official website.
What about tickets?
All 15 types of ticket can be purchased on the official EM-Con website, a general pass will be valid for one day and will cost you £15, a weekend ticket is £30 while a family pass is £36.
