The official trailer for Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has just been released, reassuring fans galaxy-wide that their favourite Lego franchise will be returning.
This game has been wildly anticipated for over a year, and fans’ patience has been rewarded with a two minute trailer showcasing gameplay for the next Lego game. Here are the top five best moments from the trailer!
5) A Release Date
One of the things which fans have been clamouring since the game was postponed last year, is an official release date for the game. Since the time of the game’s postponement very little news was heard from Lego about the status of this game, and some fans began to worry that it had been cancelled.
Thankfully for fans, this trailer is able to give a timeframe for release: Spring 2022. While this is still a long time away and isn’t an exact release date, it gives fans confirmation that this game is still coming out and when they can look forward to it.
4) Sound Design
The trailer also treats the audience to some of the sound effects of the game. Just from the trailer, it is clear that they are a step up from the past Lego game. The iconic explosion of seismic charges can be heard, when the player drops out of hyperspace the engine sound and hyperspace effects are amazing and finally there is the iconic hum of the lightsabre.
Not only will be the game be fantastic to look at, but it will also be a great one to listen to as well, with a great amount of care given to the sound of the world.
3) The Galaxy Map
This game is set to be an open world affair, with players being able to travel to planets freely and experience the story organically within the world. The trailer showcased the device that players will be using to get to different planets, the Galaxy Map.
It showcases twenty four key planets to the films that the player can jump between, as well as the completion rate of specific sectors. A few notable planets such as Jakku and Coruscant are missing from the map, though they are perhaps hidden under the question marks on the map.
The Galaxy Map is located within a menu that also houses several other options, two of which look like they are related to switching ship and the player character. The trailer also shows an X-Wing dropping out of hyperspace and landing on a planet, indicating that the ship to character transition will be seamless.
2) The Comedy
The Lego games are known for their comedy, with their adaptions taking the source material and applying comedic twists to them. While some of the physical gags have taken a backseat in favour of quips and one liners, the trailer showed that this would not always be the case.
One of the notable gags in the trailer is Luke asking Obi Wan how his father died, and Obi Wan gives a non-verbal shoulder twitch in horror.
This references various memes on the topic, as Obi Wan left Anakin for dead on the planet Mustafar. Another gag is taken from The Last Jedi, where Luke asks Rey to reach out in the force and she feels Chewie instead. This is an improvement to the gag in the film.
1) New levels
There have already been four Lego Star Wars games focusing on the mainline Star Wars films, so this game had to prove that it was more than just a remake of the original levels from the prior games.
This trailer showcased several new levels from the original films, such as the underwater escape in The Phantom Menace, arriving on Geonosis in Attack of the Clones. Twists on the old levels are bound to be in store. The trailer shows off a different version of the opening level to a New Hope using cover shooter mechanics.
These are exciting moments, proving that The Complete Saga isn’t being completely rehashed. There are some levels of key film events that are pulled from the prior games, but the new content will draw in audiences who grew up on the originals.
These features and more will make fans agonise over the wait for the release of this game, but what’s been shown will be more than worth the wait when this game releases later next year.
