It’s that time of year again where we wrap up October with Halloween celebrations. You may keep telling yourself that Halloween is pointless and that you’re too old to get dressed up in the gory version of your favourite fictional character…
… However, let’s face it, you’re probably going to get dragged out wearing fake blood anyway! Whatever your going-out plans are, these 5 spooky games will make your pres one to remember (or not to remember, depending on how much you drink.)
1. Horror Movie Drinking Game
Pick one of the classic horror movies, one that everyone is familiar with and preferably a short one. Once you’ve mixed your drinks and set up in front of the TV, establish some drinking rules. Usually, you drink when someone gets killed or when you can see the killer in the scene, but the soon-to-be victim can’t. However, you can get much more creative. For example, when some eerie music comes on, everyone drinks, or when you jump, you drink. The rule possibilities are endless, so everyone is bound to be a bit giddy towards the end.
2. Bobbing Alcohol Apples
A delightful twist on the old seasonal classic. Engrave each apple with a number and place them facedown in the water. You have 1 minute to grab each apple between the teeth in chronological order. If apple bobbing wasn’t tipsy enough, the twist is that they’re soaked in an alcohol of your choice rather than water. Who needs water anyway?
3. The Witch’s Cauldron
If there are some witches amongst you, then this game is a go-to. This game basically puts a themed spin on the usual card drinking game Ring of Fire. At the centre of the table is a hollow pumpkin (the cauldron) with a deck of facedown cards spread around it. Apply the normal Ring of Fire rules, such as whoever picks up a King fills the pumpkin with the contents of their glass. Whoever turns up the last King has to down the contents of the so-called cauldron. You might even get a pumpkin aftertaste!
4. Trick or Treat
Line up some shot glasses, and pour a mix of spirits (tricks) and alcopops (treats) into them. You can taint the tricks even more by adding a further revolting ingredient, such as Tabasco sauce or vinegar. However, we all know that may lead to chundering, so not the best idea if you’re the host! Number each shot and download a random number generator on your phone so that a shot can be randomly assigned to someone. Who needs sweets when you have shots?
5. Wrap a Mummy
This one takes me back to my childhood when my mum used to decorate the garage into the spooky cavern for us kids, everyone is put into a pair, in which one person is the corpse and the other is the wrapper equipped with toilet roll (or cling film might be more fun). On the word GO, the wrapper must spin around the corpse to mummify them with the toilet paper faster than the other pairs. This a good pres game for when you’re a few drinks down, spinning and alcohol cause a whole new level of dizziness!
