Pokémon fans, it’s time to grab your Nintendo Switches and be ready to catch them all once again as we return to the Sinnoh region!
Nintendo recently announced during the “Pokémon presents” event that there are two upcoming Pokémon titles being made for the Nintendo Switch, and fans have been ecstatic ever since the announcement (including myself).
The two games in question are: Pokémon Brilliant Diamond/Pokémon Shining Pearl which are classic remakes of the generation four 2006 DS games – Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, as well as their new game – Pokémon Legends Arceus, which is essentially a remake too but completely different at the same time as it reflects on a prehistoric Sinnoh region.
Now let’s take a look at these exciting new titles…
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
For the last year, we have all been begging for remakes of the classic Sinnoh game and at Pokémon Presents on February 26, we finally got the gift we had all been craving so bad. Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are remakes of gen four in time for the 15th anniversary of Diamond and Pearl.
Fans were however stunned by the graphics of these games, as the teaser trailer showed off an Animal Crossing/ chichi-art style, a surprise for us all.
In these games you get to choose between playing Lucas or Dawn and travel across the Sinnoh Region battling the gyms, fighting Team Galactic and preventing their evil and discovering the mysterious around the mythical legendary Pokémon – Dialga and Palkia.
Game Freak typically remakes the Pokémon games in line with the new generation and updates the graphics to incorporate this, however this time they have used a new unique art style to represent the gen four games.
The community has been left divided by this, myself included, with some praising them for changing up the game and staying loyal to the 3D model, with others criticising the company for not updating the graphics in line with the Pokémon Sword and Shield games, which provide a more open world and more graphically advanced version of Pokémon.
My personal view is that I wish the character sprites were taller and similar to the Sword and Shield games only because I have waited so long for Sinnoh remakes with Diamond and Pearl being my first ever Pokémon games, only for the remakes 15 years later to not look too different.
However, I remain optimistic for this and hope to be surprised when they finally get released later this year…
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are coming out in late 2021.
Pokémon Legends Arceus
Now onto the game we are all dying to play – Pokémon legends Arceus. This mysterious new entry to the Pokémon franchise stunned us all as we had no idea two remakes were going to be announced, but this is a different kind of remake.
Pokémon Legends Arceus is set in the past during a feudal style Sinnoh region, way before the events of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. This is the game to cause so much excitement due to the uniqueness of being set in an open world setting where so far, we can see a whole new side of catching and battling Pokémon.
From what we know so far, you once again get to choose between playing Lucas or Dawn. The game begins in your village/main hub as you set out to the wide-open world of Sinnoh, exploring the vast land and uncovering the secrets about Arceus – the Pokémon of all creation.
Your starter Pokémon this time round is between Rowlet (from generation seven), Cyndaquil (from generation two) and Oshawott (from generation five), which is highly unexpected considering they are all from other regions and Pokémon has never done this before where your starter Pokémon is one from another region.
I am very excited to play these games, as the graphics are the best Pokémon has done to date, from the open world adventure and scenery while taking somewhat inspiration from Zelda’s Breath of The Wild.
Not much has been revealed yet about these games with more expected details are sure to be revealed about these games in the upcoming months and I for one cannot wait to see what else will be revealed.
Pokémon Legends Arceus is coming out in early 2022.
