This weeks Platform book club review comes from Scarlett Acres, in her review of Six Angry Girls by Adrienne Kisner.
This is the perfect book for all feminists who want to put a positive change on the world.
Six Angry Girls follows from the point of view of two girls ā Raina and Millie ā as you follow them through the troubles of school, applying for college and sexism.
When the two meet unexpectedly, they join forces to create an all-girl mock trial team to fight against the all-boy team that voted Millie off their group.
With the use of an advice columnist, a politically active yarn store and friendship ā we see these girls join forces to smash the patriarchy.
This book was recommended by a friend, and it definitely didnāt disappoint.
Adrienne Kisner manages to address important topics. However, with light humour among it, creating a fun and informative read.
The important ways of how different genders are treated differently in the same situation or how society can have influences on peopleās belief. These are all explored incredibly.
It is important to remember that feminism is the equality of men and women ā not one above the other ā a huge misbelief about feminism is that they want to be better. We just want equality.
Family is another important theme explored through the two main characters and shows how family can have a huge effect on people.
The characters have incredible representation of the LGBTQ+ community including a transgender woman and a lesbian romance ā also including people of colour in the story. Representation is so important, and it is incredible to see so much in one book.
The book is very short being under 300 pages and I wish it was longer so that I could connect with the story and characters even more, also exploring more into the different characters and what they represent.
But apart from this ā the book was truly something special and I throughly recommend it to everyone.
