It’s been 35 years since The Goonies was first released, but this iconic film remains popular throughout the generations, as who doesn’t love a good treasure hunt?
This movie focuses on four boys who discover an old treasure map and embark on a journey of a lifetime to find the long-lost fortune of a 17th century pirate – One-Eyed Willy.
We have Chunk who is an awful liar, Data the smart one, Mouth who is unable to be anything but sarcastic, and Mikey who is the leader of the group of misfits. It is he who leads his friends on their quest.
However, the kids don’t find the treasure without encountering a lot of trouble, tricks, and trap. So, it’s a good job they have three teenagers there to help them out, including Mikey’s older brother Brand, and his friends Andy and Stef.
There are so many memorable moments from the film it’s hard to choose the best one, it could be the “Truffle Shuffle”, but I personally love the scene where Chunk confesses everything he’s ever done wrong to the Fratelli family.
The American adventure comedy film has inspired many other tv moments, as series such as The Goldberg’s and Family Guy include references to the film.
Many say The Goonies also inspired shows like Stranger Things, as Barb is very similar to Stef and it has the same group of pre-teen misfits.
Thanks to this classic film, we were also introduced to many child actors that have become huge successes since.
Arguably the most successful of which is Sean Astin (Mikey), who has gone on to star in films like Cabin Fever and Justice League: Throne of Atlantis, and appeared in shows like Brooklyn 99, Stranger Things, The Big Bang Theory and Supergirl.
Josh Brolin, (Brand), has also gone on to be very successful and has been in films such as Deadpool, Avengers: Endgame, Men in Black and Sicario.
Ultimately, The Goonies is one of those classic films that remains one of the greats and a pick for any film lovers bucket list.
