After being starved of all the red-carpet glitz and glamour courtesy of the pandemic, we are finally back and able to see all these couture looks walking along the carpet once again.
Here at Platform magazine, we’ve picked out our favourite looks from the 2021 Oscars.
1. Zendaya in Valentino

We look to none other than Zendaya to pull out an enchanting look. The Malcolm and Marie star,24, wore a beautiful Valentino dress. The actress and her long-time stylist Law Roach chose a bright yellow gown designed for her by Pierpaolo Piccioli, featuring a cut-out panel and boasting a slinky silhouette. Zendaya paired the dress with a statement necklace which completed the outfit. This look really turned back time with this 70’s Cher inspired look, sported by the icon on “The Sonny and Cher Show” where she wore a similar yellow jumpsuit.
2. Carey Mulligan in Valentino Couture

In an instant, Carey Mulligan, nominated for her role in ‘Promising Young Women’, shut down the red-carpet and reached the top of everyone’s best dressed list wearing her one-of-a-kind piece from Pierpaolo Piccioli’s spring/summer 2021 collection for Valentino.
The gown was embellished with thousands of sequins and took 350 hours to create in Rome.
Nicky Yates, Mulligans stylist, accessorised the star with Cartier high jewelry and Stuart Weitzman heels. We love it!
3. Lakeith Stanfield in Saint Laurent

It can be difficult to explain what a perfect awards show outfit looks like, so I’ll keep it plain and simple… LaKeith Stanfield’s 2021 Oscar’s couture jumpsuit.
I could talk about this look forever, how the jumpsuit fits him perfectly, how the lines of the suit compliment his figure, and how the outfit flows from head to toe.
The 60’s inspired Yves Saint Laurent piece pays homage to the YSL Le Smoking Tuxedo, which defined an era and changed fashion forever.
4. H.E.R. in Peter Dundas

H.E.R. showed up in a look that turned everyone’s head that was unforgettably unique. Not only does this dramatic cobalt blue hooded cape paired with round purple shades remind us of Prince but it features the lyrics of her Oscar-nominated song from Judas and the Black Messiah, “Fight For You.” Stylish, unforgettable, iconic, and a fantastic what else could you ask for?
5. Angela Bassett in Alberta Ferretti

It’s no surprise that Angela Bassett looked ethereal on the red-carpet, and the COVID-19 pandemic didn’t stop the cinema legend from turning up in one of the nights best outfits.
Bassett wore a crimson gown from Alberta Ferretti, creating a look filled with drama. Styled by Jennifer Austin, the off-the-shoulder look, was teamed with a stunning lips clutch by Judith Lieber, matched with delicate ruby drop earrings, perfectly finishing off the dramatic yet glamorous look.
The 93rd Academy Awards served us everything, from enchanting looks to breath-taking make-up artistry, along with our favourite A-listers. The 2021 Oscars had it all, and here at platform we hope you enjoyed our favourite looks from the ground-breaking event.
