Here at Platform magazine, we give our NTU students the opportunity to experiment with creativity, whether that be through writing, design or honing your marketing skills.
After you graduate and leave us to begin your exciting career, who knows where you will end up?
As part of a new regular feature, we are catching up with Platform’s alumni to see where they are now.
First up, is 23-year-old Mia Penny.
Hi Mia! Can you tell us a bit about your time at NTU?
I studied English Literature at NTU and graduated in 2018. During my time at NTU, I wrote some online and published articles for Platform which really set me up and kickstarted my career.
Can you tell us how Platform has helped you?
When going from internships, it gave me a competitive advantage. I still have my experience at Platform on my CV, alongside other volunteer experiences, to show that during my time at university, I went above and beyond.
What are you doing now?
After graduating from NTU I studied Media and Public Relations at the University of Leicester, and then took an internship after graduating in my master’s degree as Marketing and Tender Executive. During the 6 months of this internship, I expanded on my content writing experience and starting social media management. I saw this opportunity to work at the University of Leicester in their central marketing team as a Social Media Manager and instantly took the opportunity.
What would you tell our current NTU students and Platform members?
I would recommend to any student that they take every opportunity they can and make the most out of it, take risks and work towards your goals every day. Getting experience alongside your degree is a MUST and I’m glad I did it, otherwise, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
