Nottingham Trent University has announced an additional University Closure Day on the day of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.
The Queen’s state funeral will take place on Monday, September 19.
King Charles III has approved an order for the funeral to be a bank holiday.
NTU campuses will remain open to support new and returning students as they do all year round, while enrolment hubs, catering facilities, accommodation services and student support services will be available for anyone who needs them.
Some scheduled events for students on that day may be postponed to allow the NTU community to join in the period of national mourning.
The Clifton Freshers’ Fair, which was due to take place on Monday, September 19, has now been moved to Tuesday, September 20, meaning it will take place at the same time as the Brackenhurst Freshers’ Fair.
Timetables for returning students have been postponed due to the event – they will now be released via NOW at 6pm on Tuesday, September 20, instead of Friday, September 16.
All first-year undergraduate Welcome Week timetables will be amended in the coming days and then reissued.
Campus libraries will also be open between 9am – 5pm on the day of the Queen’s funeral.
A statement from Professor Edward Peck, President and Vice-Chancellor of Nottingham Trent University, reads: “On behalf of the whole NTU community of colleagues and students, I want to express our profound sadness at the passing of Her Majesty the Queen and we extend our deep condolences to her family.
“She was a calm and dignified presence for all of us throughout our lives.
“She stood as a shining example of what dedication to public service means.
“She brought us together as a nation at times of challenge and pain.”
