The Geordie trio are back with their second EP ‘Take Me to the Strange’ and with heavy riffs and catchy choruses, they are certainly a band you need to listen too.
The Pale White are made up of brothers Adam (guitar/lead vocals) and Jake Hope (drums) and Tom Booth (bass). The Newcastle trio have supported the likes of Twin Atlantic and Sea Girls as well as playing the BBC Introducing stage at Glastonbury last year.
Opening the EP with “Wisdom Tooth”, which has an exploding start with a heavy bass throughout that is insanely catchy, Adam Hope’s soft vocals juxtapose the carnage of the drums and guitars that work flawlessly together. You can understand why they choose this as the lead single.
“Trapped Nerve” has a moody, sexy introduction with a slick bassline that again, is insanely catchy. It provides a Royal Blood-esque sound with its low riff. It’s a different direction for the band with the guitar solo that is so so unpredictable halfway through.
Leading nicely into the energetic track “Panic Attack” which puts up on edge but also fills you with excitement (almost like a panic attack). ‘One-way ticket to combustion’ Adam sings whilst his brother, Jake is pulling out impressive stops with rapid drum rhythms. The track trails out with a much softer sound that demonstrates that you’ve calmed down from all the excitement – a surprising and ingenious way of ending a powerful song.
“The Future is Mine” is a massive ‘f you’ in my opinion with the lyrics “The past is all yours/The future is mine.” The track is much slower and darker with a heavy focus on the drums until we get another unexpected and explosive guitar solo.
Finishing with a more of a typical indie head-bop track “End of Time”, it showcases The Pale White’s many talents and that they can blend genre’s together effortlessly well. It’s an easy-going track that breaks up from some of their more powerful tracks.
“Take Me to the Strange” has literally been on repeat ever since it came out on Friday (November 2). I had been a huge fan of this band for a while, but this EP has knocked everything out the park. I am certain that we will hear more from this band very soon.
