Film Review: Happiness Continues

If you thought Amazon’s documentary looking at the return of the Jonas Brothers inChasing Happiness was all we were going to see of the Jonas Brothers for a little while, then you were wrong!

Released at midnight on 24 April, the Happiness Continues concert film shows the Jonas Brothers in their much anticipated and much appreciated (10-year-old me is freaking out right now) return to touring after six years apart as a band.

Not only are we blessed with some classics such as “Gotta find you”, “Lovebug” and of course not forgetting “Burning Up”, but the boys play the tracks to their album Happiness Begins, released last year.

If you are planning on watching this film concert, then it is a must that you watch the documentary Amazon originally released (Chasing Happiness, available on Amazon Prime) telling the story of the boys coming back together not only back as a band, but back as brothers.

They continue their focus on how the much-loved Jonas Brothers found each other once again and reunited as a band – much to the delight of their fanbase globally.

Fans get the behind the scenes action of the boy’s tour as not only we see them perform in countries around the world, but we gain an insight into their separate lives and just how special this journey is to them. What this film does well is it exposes the boy’s thoughts and gives an emotional element to the film (yes, at times I may have had tears in my eyes).

Especially Kevin Jonas, the eldest and probably the wisest as he was first to marry and have children. He talks about how special it is for his children to come watch him. He clearly has so much love for his family, just from him talking about them it adds a more meaningful look towards the film.

To me, those are the highlights of this concert film. Not only do we see them on tour around the world, singing the songs we know and love today (especially me), but we see them at some ways in their most vulnerable. It shows them they are people just like us, they have feelings as well.

They may be global superstars (as this is what they are presented to us like), but in something like this it simply shows them as down to earth people and shows them how grateful they really are doing what they love.

If you have listened to the album, and after watching this film as well as Chasing Happiness, it really does add meaning to their songs. Take for instance “Hesitate” on the Happiness Begins album. Joe Jonas talks about how when he sings this song, this is his favourite to perform because he is thinking of his wife (Games of Thrones actor Sophie Turner), thinking of how much he loves her and their wedding. Now that is love!

Perhaps the only pitfall in this film was how they were less focused on Nick when talking to the brothers. I feel like we got more of an insight into the thoughts and lives of Joe and Kevin compared to Nick.

Happiness Continues is definitely worth the watch for any Jonas Brothers fans out there. Not only their fans, but for anyone wanting just that little bit on inspiration to get you through lockdown, cause that is something this film is full of: hope and inspiration.
