Little Mix capture nostalgia perfectly on new album ‘Between Us’

Little Mix have finally released their greatest hits album, ‘Between Us’, which features their most-played tracks plus five new songs.

Celebrating their 10-year anniversary as a group, this album is the ultimate throwback to every Little Mix era.

The five new songs include ‘Love Sweet Love’ and title track ‘Between Us’, which were the first singles released by the group as a trio following Jesy Nelson’s December 2020 departure.

‘No’, ‘Cut You Off’ and ‘Trash’ are the album’s remaining brand-new tracks.

The first of these, No, is about breaking out of a controlling relationship and comes with another music video, filmed while Perrie Edwards and Leigh-Anne Pinnock were still heavily pregnant.

The song Cut You OffĀ has caused a lot of speculation as to whether it is about ex-bandmate Nelson.

With lyrics reading ‘How did we get here? It used to be so good / Nothing lasts forever, but I really thought we could’, it’s not hard to see why.

Little Mix have not confirmed or denied these rumours, however in an interview they mentioned how they attended group therapy and Jade Thirlwall wrote Cut You OffĀ after their session.

TrashĀ is about not putting up with someone who treats you badly in a relationship, and instead, they sing: ‘If your man’s a player, throw him in the trash.’

The band have even released a ‘Between Us (The Mixers Edition)’, featuring eight additional songs selected by fans prior to the album’s release; ‘Change Your Life’, ‘Little Me’, ‘Love Me or Leave Me’, ‘Wasabi’, ‘Think About Us’, ‘Joan of Arc’, ‘Woman’s World’ and ‘Bounce Back’.

Little Mix have made it clear that this album is not a farewell, despite rumours circulating that they are set to split as a group.

Talking to Attitude Magazine, the trio said: “It’s not a goodbye, it’s a celebration, and the main thing for us is that we’re able to now do our little solo things.

“The bottom line is, Little Mix is never going to die. Little Mix is always going to be Little Mix.”

Jade, Perrie and Leigh-Anne are three talented women who have incredible voices, and their music is still underrated 10 years on from their formation as a group.

Many people still have the fixed image of them as being a ‘guilty pleasure’ or the stereotypical ‘bubblegum pop’ girl group.

As a loud and proud Little Mix fan of 10 years, I will continue to support and obsess over every song they release in the same way I did as a nine-year-old dancing in her bedroom to ‘Wings’!

This album is filled with nostalgia, with the greatest hits featured on this album each unlocking a personal memory; a feat that not every singer-songwriter can repeat.

Between UsĀ is currently sat at number two in the UK albums chart midweek, and is only a few sales away from overtaking Taylor Swift’s album ‘Red’.

Here’s hoping that it can pull off the feat and become the band’s second UK Number One album.
