It may be a rather boastful choice of name but Happiness in Liquid Form is, without a doubt, worthy of the title.
The first thing that came into my head when I saw the title for the track was a vanilla milkshake, but this is just as delicious.
The more-popular 80s sounds are noticeable, from Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia to the Weeknd’s After Hours, it looks like 2020 is a tribute to the 80s and I approve. Upcoming star, Alfie Templeman is a name that should be added to the list and additionally, remembered during this time.
Echoing sounds from the 70s / 80s (Bee Gees), Alfie Templeman debuted the disco-infused Happiness in Liquid Form on BBC Radio 1 with Annie Mac on 7t April. It is both radio-ready and radio-friendly.
This creation sets an impressively high benchmark. Its creativity lies not only its title and contemporary take on the 80s sound, but also in the lyric video that premiered with it. Such unique and vividly striking visuals will appeal in any given situation, especially the current ones at hand. You can listen to this at the beach, with your friends, running around outside and just having such good fun. It will certainly get you ready for spring and summer the same way Carly Rae Jepsen’s Julien did for me last year.
This is followed by an impressive piano-soloed bridge, supplemented with electric guitars and hand-claps for good measure.
However, this should be considered more of an alternative 80s funk-pop track. I mean, the chorus, if not most of the whole song is very pop-esque – a synth-pop which makes me think of Tame Impala mixed with a little Madonna or Sigrid – but I never thought Alfie Templeman could be. This unpredictability is exactly what we need to keep us on the edge of our seats and which makes me hopeful and excited for what is to come.
Get ready to hear this one (and dance along to it) all year round in a low-key manner, as this could be one of the hottest and happiest songs to brighten up our 2020.
