One of my old uni friends could always predict when a song would make it to the charts. She predicted Sexual by NEIKED, Breathe by Jax Jones and 17 by MK. This new release by Becky Hill and Tiesto has also had Amy’s seal of approval…
The house bop Nothing Really Matters was written last year according to The List but it feels really relevant at the moment. It’s lyrics, including: “if tonight was all we had together let’s love each other like nothing really matters’”, carry a message that I think a lot of people could benefit from right now.
I like to think this song’s message is that if you like someone and you want to be more than friends, then tell them. Ask yourself, if the world was really ending, would I regret not telling this person how I feel about them?
It makes me think of the TikTok challenges where people who have had a long-term crush on their best friends kiss them to see their reactions. For the most part these have resulted in some really sweet realisations that their best friend always liked them too, and I hope loads of people hear this song and tell that special person how they feel about them.
The song is an upbeat, feel-good house/dance track that feels like a cross between the earlier, bass-heavy Lose Control and the more recent, vocal-centric break-up anthem Better Off Without You. The balance between the two artists shows off Hill’s impressive vocals but nodding to Tiesto’s EMD roots. Instead of seeing the song as purely apocalyptic, I’ll hold out hope that people hear it and see that now more than ever we need to appreciate those closest to us.
Definitely give this one a listen.
