The best new music to get you through Freshers Week

As students return to university there is an abundance of new music to get you through this Freshers Week:

New Gold- Gorillaz, Tame Impala and Bootie Brown

Gorillaz latest track consists of leading vocals by Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker plus Bootie Brown, their different styles make for a bold collaboration.

This up-tempo, funky song has elements of indie pop with guitars introduced at the start progressing into a repetitive electronic sound, making for the perfect dance track.

Their highly anticipated album Cracker Island is out next February featuring other renowned artists like Stevie Nicks and Bad Bunny.

Everybody’s Cool- Two Door Cinema Club

This Northern Irish band have been creating hit after hit since 2010 with mainstream indie songs like What You Know and Undercover Martyn.

Everybody’s Cool has upbeat sounding vocals from Alex Trimble and pop-like instrumentals, this indie pop song is perfect to lift your mood.

In early September they released their fifth album Keep on Smiling, over ten years after their debut album Tourist History was made.

Arms- Model Man

This electronic musician brings all the vibes with his laid back tracks including 2005 NYE.

His debut album from 2021 featured Rationale, Hamzaa and Arctic Lake.

After a busy year creating singles and an EP Model Man released the new single Arms which you could easily listen to on repeat for hours.

Angels & Queens- Gabriels

This trio is carried by singer Jacob Lusk whose soft, pitch perfect vocals amplify songs including their new track Angels and Queens.

The gospel-choir influence reflects the music they create.

Gabriels incorporate a variety of other styles which can be heard through their music including old school jazz and soul in songs like Love and Hate in a Different Time.

There’d Better Be A Mirrorball- Arctic Monkeys

After four long years of waiting Arctic Monkeys have finally released their new single after headlining at festivals across the globe.

This slow paced song contradicts the usually heavier indie rock sound Arctic Monkeys carry with songs like Don’t Sit Down ‘Cause I Moved Your Chair and R U Mine?

This romantic-sounding song is simple yet effective focussing your attention on Alex Turner’s melodic vocals.

They have recently announced their next album The Car which will be out October, 21.

Pieces- Yazmin Lacey

The ethereal sounding Yazmin Lacey delivers mellow jazz tunes.

She released her first EP in 2017 and has gone onto release a collection of other singles.

Her smooth vocals have gained her a following with thoughtful lyrics and soft jazz instrumentals.
