Tom Odell performed at The Level on November 2 to celebrate the release of his latest album Best Day Of My Life.
The singer proved why he had been voted Brits Critics’ Choice Award in 2013 as he delivered strong vocals showcasing his broad vocal range alongside effortless piano skills.
He sang songs from his debut album including Grow Old With Me which touched the crowd as his angelic vocals travelled across the dimly lit room.
He performed a collection of songs from his latest album.
Enemy was a slow paced piano piece with a live choir complimenting his vocals as they harmonised.
Best Day Of My Life showcased Tom’s soft vocals that felt like a warm embrace and made for a thoughtful live song.
His setlist included an array of heart felt, raw songs sang with such warmth like Streets of Heaven and Heal which had The Level in complete silence, utterly transfixed.
A slowed down rendition of Magnetised incorporated solos by choir members who Tom described as “individually the highest accomplished musicians.”
Tom gave a heartfelt speech reassuring those struggling with anxiety, depression and poor wellbeing and shared his own personal experiences and explained how music acts as a form of escapism.
The singer went on to joke about being fortunate enough to spend two days in Nottingham and described it as “unimaginable.”
The lyrics across his albums explore a yearning for love, optimism and the struggles of everyday life.
His new album tries to find an answer to these questions and determines a happier perspective on life itself.
His hard hitting vocals convey the complexity of relationships and made for an emotionally charged concert.
Can’t Pretend was the highlight of the concert with instrumentals sounding like a beating heart, the powerhouse of the entire concert.
The echoing of the choir and Tom’s vocal strength climaxed as the song went on developing into a compelling piece of live art.
The concert ended with his biggest song to date Another Love which brought the room together in unison.
Tom sang with such purpose and power with the choirs gospel like sound making for an unforgettable performance.
