Two of Nottingham Trent University’s societies, Women’s Welfare Society and Cocktail Society, joined forces to hold a meeting for all societies to discuss the increasing number of spikings in Nottingham.
Wednesday, October 27 will see the first ‘Girls Night In’ boycott, where girls are planning to boycott clubs to make them take the cases of spiking more seriously.
However, many societies believe a one-night boycott is not enough to make all the venues listen.
A further boycott lasting a whole week, between November 1-7, has been proposed to make a bigger statement to clubs on what they need to do to improve.
The wellbeing officer for the Women’s Welfare Society, Adrienne, will be holding a meeting next week where societies who want to join the boycott can come and find out more information – as well as offering any suggestions they may have.
The meeting will likely take place next Tuesday but the time and date are to be confirmed.
There are currently 15 societies already on board for this boycott.
Cities all around the UK are taking part in the ‘Girls Night In’ boycott over a number of different days next week, including Birmingham, Leeds, and Exeter.

The hope is for everyone to take part in the ‘Girls Night In’ boycott to help show support to the victims of spiking and to push venues to make a difference.
Think us lads should get involved in the boycotting as well, clubs & bars need to start taking this spiking epidemic more seriously pic.twitter.com/NeDmgz8tW9

The owner of Ocean Nightclub, Andy Hoe, released multiple Instagram posts highlighting the changes that will be implemented to make a night out at Ocean safer.
A few changes will be stricter ID checks, re-implementing searches on the door, drink toppers to be made available at the bars, and on-hand help.
Volunteers from the University of Nottingham Nurses and Midwives will be on hand mainly outside the club, giving out water, biscuits, and will be there to help for any reason.
Andy also said: “As an extension to this I am looking to put together a paid team of students, to assist with this going forward.
“We are in the process of setting up a safe space in the club.”
The date and time of the second boycott are subject to change and may target certain clubs.
