Coronavirus hoax spreads around Nottingham Trent University

A post circulating on social media was believed to have revealed the first student at Nottingham Trent University to test positive for COVID-19.

The post had encouraged students who had been in contact with either themselves or their flat mates to seek emergency assistance.

Luke Marshall, one of the flatmates tagged in the social media post, has said this was a hoax.

The author of the post is not believed to attend Nottingham Trent University and was described as being something ‘funny…that got out of hand.’

Luke cleared up the confusion by saying over snapchat messages: “just to clear it all up the lad who posted it doesn’t go [to] uni, he’s just a mate from home.

“[We] got drunk [and] thought it would be funny to do that and well it got out of hand.”

If anyone believes they have COVID-19 they’re advised to self-isolate and call the NHS on 111.
