Two internet outages at Nottingham Trent University student accommodation were as a result of a cyber-attack.
Glide, who provides internet for a number of student accommodation sites across the country including UPP-run residential areas at Nottingham Trent University, said a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack was the cause of the issues.
Students staying at Sandby suffered internet losses on May 12 and May 20 as a result of the cyber attack.
A spokesperson for Glide told Platform that the outages were unable to be solved remotely and an engineer was sent to the accommodation site.
They added: “In response to this, we have engaged our Problem Management Team, Senior Network Architects and Vendor specialists to identify how we can prevent reoccurrence of the same issue again.
“Glide recognises the importance of a reliable internet connection and the dependency on our services to support virtual learning and communications with family and friends.
“We apologise for the inconvenience these issues caused the residents of Sandby Halls and we are doing all we can to stabilise the performance of the network moving forward.”
The internet outages come at a time when students living in the accommodation site could have been working on assignment deadlines.
Any students who continue to experience issues have been advised to contact Glide’s service desk team on 0333 123 0115.
