Black Lives Matters (BLM) supporters in Nottingham attend the peaceful protest set up by individual activists.
The protest is set to take place at Forest Recreation Ground, where protesters will gather today (Sunday, June 7) to demand justice for the black communities.
This is a call by BLM supporters in Nottingham following the tragic death of George Floyd in America.
The event, which is expected to have thousands of protesters, starts at 12pm and will last two hours.
The Black Lives Matter Nottingham Peaceful protest has been set up by three young black and mixed-raced girls who want to show support to the BLM worldwide movement.
The organisers of the protest Janelle, Shan and Tyla, said: “We wanted to be able to show our support after seeing yet another disgusting video of George Floyd being murdered due to police brutality.
“We believe a peaceful protest is the best way to respectfully get our voices heard.
“During the day we have speakers who will be speaking about their own experiences, poets sharing empowering poems and we will also be holding 8 minutes of silence at the end.
“This was the amount of time the officer was kneeling on George Floyd’s neck.
“We understand we are still in the middle of a pandemic which is why we have encouraged everyone attending to, adhere 2m social distancing, wear masks and bring hand sanitiser.
“We want to see a change so we believe this along with all other protests around the world will be the start.”
