An NTU student has donated nearly 20 inches of her hair to The Little Princess Trust.
Kelsie Taylor, a first-year student studying Sport and Exercise Science, 19, had been wanting to donate her hair for a while, and finally cut it on May 8th.
It is the first time she has ever donated hair and was supported in her decision to do so by friends and family.
She said: “I’ve been wanting to cut it for a long time because I play a lot of sport and it tends to get in the way.
“I cut more off than I usually would, so I could provide hair for children who need it more than me.”
The Little Princess Trust is a charity that provides real hair wigs to children and young people experiencing hair loss, and they also fund research into childhood cancers.
The charity is in demand for hair 16 inches or longer, as it is used for their most popular wigs, which are 12 inches long.
Kelsie said: “I’d love to be able to help young people with cancer and make them feel more comfortable within their own skin.
“Knowing my hair will potentially have a positive impact on a child’s life makes it all worth it.”
However due to the pandemic, Little Princess Trust are not currently accepting hair. They are instead promoting their ‘let it grow’ campaign.
Kelsie added: “I’ve let it grow as long as possible until I felt the time was right to cut it and I will send it off once they’re accepting hair again.”
NTU Netball President, Mackenzie Johnson, a second-year student studying Policing, 20, said: “This amazing donation from Kelsie to the Little Princess Trust will give someone the confidence to feel like themselves again.
“NTU Netball are immensely proud of Kelsie, as she is well known for her long locks.”
