Meet your VP Sport candidates 2020/21

Recently, we managed to talk to each of the candidates campaigning for your votes for Vice President Sport in the NTSU elections.

Here’s what each of them had to say:

Zoe Clifton

Tell me a bit about yourself and your NTU journey.

I joined NTU in September 2017. I chose NTU because after visiting for an open day I loved the facilities and the options for both my course and in terms of sporting opportunities. Iā€™m in my last year studying Sport Science and Management, which I have loved studying. I have also been part of the cheerleading team during my time at NTU, competing with them at national competitions. I have really enjoyed my time here at NTU and would like the chance to give something back.Ā

Why did you decide to run for VP Sport?

Sport is something I have always been passionate about, I believe I have the right mindset and drive to help students reach their sporting potential and to continue the success of NTU Sport. I would love to represent the voice of the students to help implement new ideas and support all clubs.

What do you believe sets you apart from the other candidates?

I have been part of the cheerleading committee which has allowed me to understand the role and challenges of running a sports club. I believe being part of such a large club has allowed me to work well with a variety of people and understand how to organise large events. I am a very committed person and will ensure that I make sure that your voices are heard.

What changes would you make to NTU sport if elected?

Look at improving social member inclusivity within sports clubs by offering smaller social member fees. Increase access to underrepresented sports by working with marketing to help promote clubs. Offer more opportunities to increase post-graduate participation by working with VP Post-grad. New development sessions to help increase participation throughout all sports by increasing awareness and offering more sessions as part of the play for fun scheme.

Lucy Adams

Tell me a bit about yourself and your NTU journey

I am 20 from North London and I work part time as a David Lloyd Kids Team Member. My main sport is karate which I started when I was 5 years old, I am a 2nd dan black belt. Iā€™ve basicly participated and competed in every sport under the sun to be honest! I started university back in 2017 and I study Sports Science with Management. I chose NTU because it has a great encatchment to entice anyone within the UK and it has everything you could wish for!

What do you believe sets you apart from the other candidates?

I am willing to go the extra mile for anyone. No matter how big or small something is, I will give it my all which I think is a rare trait to have. I have a true passion for sport, and I am constantly wanting to learn more and help other people. Iā€™m also a very creative individual so whatever task I am given or job I have to do, if I can make it have a different twitch to it, I will! I want to appeal to as many people as possible and to make everyone feel included in the Trent Community.

Why did you decide to run for VP Sport?

This opportunity would be the next step for me and help me to give back to the university and everyone who has helped me along the way.Ā Ā I am a true lover of sport and I have been all my life, so being elected to fulfil such a vital role would feel like such a privilege. I want to help make sports clubs the best they can be and get even more involved with what the NTSU has to offer.

What changes or improvements would you make to sport at NTU if elected?

My dream aim would be to get everyone at NTU to be involved in sport some way or another! Iā€™m fighting for inclusivity for everyone, I want non varsity sports to have more competitive oppurtunities, underrepresented sports to have more promotion and I want to increase awareness of the option to join a club socially or competitively.Ā Ā Iā€™m fighting for more recognition for individuals, with the sad news about sports ball no longer running, I think it is vital that there is new way individuals and clubs can be recognised for their enthusiasm, hard work and talent.

Rasika Gadgil

Tell me a bit about yourself.

I’m studying MSc. Management and supply chain management at NTU. The reason I chose NTU because they focus more on students’ engagement in different activities besides studies and always motivate and support them.

Why did you decide to run for VP Sport?

I’m running for the position of Vice-President of sports as I’m still passionate about sports and want to encourage other students to participate and engage themself in different games and step towards a healthy life after the current scenario. I think the elitist attitude for investors should come to an end, and I think sports is an essential element to which everyone should have easy access. Being a taekwondo player at the national level, I know how vital role both motivation and support play while running towards your achievement. So I want to stand out and support students to achieve their goals by giving appropriate training, various facilities that are needed, and the most crucial thing is equal opportunity to everyone.

What is your favourite thing about NTU?

My favorite thing about NTU is its diverse culture like students from different countries with different cultures and languages working together as a whole team.

Voting for the studentsā€™ union elections opens at 9am on the 27th April, and will close at 5pm on the 29th April.
