The University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University have released statements about the current threat of the coronavirus in China.
The coronavirus first broke out in Wuhan City in China, and has so far killed 41 people, just ahead of the Chinese New Year.
So far there have been 1,500 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in China, and fears have spread to other countries where students may be travelling internationally.
The University of Nottingham has a campus in Ningbo, over 500 miles from Wuhan.
The University has released a statement amid concerns of students contracting the virus.
“We are not aware of any staff or students in the affected areas in China.
“However, the university is keeping students informed of the latest advice by UK and Chinese health authorities, including precautionary measures such as good hand and respiratory hygiene,” the university explained.
Nottingham Trent University also receives a number of students from China each academic year, but does not believe the virus will threaten their students.
A Nottingham Trent University spokesperson said: “The safety and welfare of our students and colleagues is always our first priority.”
“Along with other universities, NTU is monitoring the situation with regards to the coronavirus very closely,” they added.
“We have an international staff and student community at NTU and will follow appropriate advice from relevant agencies.”
This comes after UK universities such as Dundee and Birmingham confirmed they have students currently studying in the city of Wuhan.
