The beloved event will not take place this year, according to a statement from the Nottingham City Council.
Nottingham’s Goose Fair, the annual event held in the Forest Recreation Ground, was supposed to take place from September 30 to October 4.
Unfortunately, this event was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to Hugh Casswell, political reporter for BBC.
According to his last tweets, the Nottingham City Council looked at several options to keep the fair going, including timed sessions to limit capacity, or extending it to 10 days, but “neither came close to providing capacity for the 400,000+ visitors who would normally attend”.
Getting people to and from the site on public transport is also a major factor, as this is usually the busiest week of the year for the tram network.
This has caused immediate reactions from people on Twitter:
However, some people agree with the decision, saying it was a “sensible move”.
Nottingham’s Goose Fair has only been cancelled eight times in its more than 700 year history, including for the bubonic plague and the two world wars.
