Notts police break up crowds in the city centre on the eve of Tier 3 restrictions

Officers rushed onto James street where massive crowds of youngsters were chanting as the city went to Tier 3 on Thursday (October 29).

This was after 10pm as all pubs closed, and groups of people congregated outside to continue ‘celebration’.

One man has been arrested on suspicion of drunk and disorderly while dispersal orders were issued to the crowd.

Chief Constable Craig Guildford said: “Officers arrested one 18-year-old man on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly.

“He remains in police custody.

“Following the reports, officers were swiftly on the scene to disperse the crowds from the Old Market Square and the rest of the evening had no incidents of note.”

The disturbance follows the announcement that Nottingham will be in Tier 3 from 00:01 on Friday, October 30.

The previous agreement was for Nottingham to be put into Tier 3 Thursday, but was pushed back 24 hours to extend the restrictions to other boroughs.

A video posted on Facebook by Simmy Parker shows the extent of the crowds and police detaining one person.
