Nottingham Trent University’s Hindu society have launched a brand new podcast called ‘ChitChat and Chai’ that they hope will encourage engagement between all members of NTSU.
ChitChat and Chai, which launched on June 24, is available on all major streaming services to allow students from any background to get involved.
We spoke to Hindu society, including society President Dhruv Vagani, whose committee members range from age 19 to 23, about why they decided to set up their own podcast.
“We as the committee decided to create “ChitChat and Chai” in order to educate and inform our audience on issues from the perspective of a young British Indian,” they told us.
“Life can be complicated for British Hindus with many obstacles such as race, culture and religion and how they intersect. We aim to focus on these different matters as well as the trends and debates faced in society today.”
Hindu society also added how the idea of the podcast developed from simply wanting to engage with their audience:
“It began as an idea to encourage virtual engagement for our members and other students of NTU, to an idea the committee wanted on a permanent basis. ‘ChitChat and Chai’ is where we want to be informative and passionate dwelling into different matters, ideas and trends.”
Listeners of the podcast can expect upcoming episodes of the podcast to feature topics such as mental health, challenging common stereotypes surrounding being Asian and racial profiling within ethnic minorities.
“Our podcast intends to both educate our audience but also provide relatable content, as our own research into podcasts didn’t find a huge range from a British Indian perspective,” they added.
“We aim to help our members and other students of NTU on how they can overcome these obstacles and what to do if they need any help.”
