Nottingham Trent Students’ Union (NTSU) and various societies belonging to the Students’ Union have expressed their solidarity for the Black community in light of recent protests.
Protests worldwide have been carried out in response to the death of George Floyd, triggering many companies and celebrities to show their support for the Black Lives Matter movement.
NTSU have shown their support for the Black community through their social media.
Other societies from the Students’ Union have also shown their support for the Black Lives Matter campaign, including the NTU Drama Society.
NTU Labour Students also supported the movement:
Sam Harris, a second-year Politics and International Relations student, believes it is vital for students to support these movements.
“NTU Labour stands in solidarity, shoulder-to-shoulder with black communities across the UK and the world.
“We support fully the action that has been taking place across the UK and US and reaffirm our commitment to fighting racism and fascism head-on wherever it may be,” he added.
“Our members have been taking part in protests, online activism and have been sending messages of support to black communities during this time of pain.
“We are allies, friends and comrades, we will always stand up for the dismantling of the racist institutions across the world,” he told us.
Michael Marsden, the Dean of NTU’s School of Art and Design, also stated on social media that the school would not tolerate racism of any kind.
Nottingham Trent University previously stated online that they “stand against racism” and “support is here for any student who needs it”.
This comes after NTU began investigating a student for posting a picture in a black face mask on social media.
