Nottingham Trent University have released a new statement regarding the current concern surrounding the spread of viral COVID-19.
The statement revealed that although no cases within the University have been confirmed, NTU is taking all necessary precautionary measures to prevent the spread of infection.
Steve Denton, Chief Operating Officer and Registrar for the University said: “I appreciate that this is a difficult time, and it is inevitable that our levels of worry and concern will increase as more confirmed cases are reported and news coverage focuses on little else.
“For now, NTU remains open and it is business as usual.
“All our community are encouraged to continue with their work and studies as safely and as considerately as they can,” he continued.
“In the event of a confirmed case of coronavirus at NTU we will announce this through official communication and social media channels, along with advice and guidance for staff and students.”
“Across NTU campuses we are deep cleaning communal areas more frequently and have made hand sanitiser more readily available, again as precautionary measures,” he added.
The statement also reiterated the advice published by the World Health Organization and Public Health England, such as washing your hands more frequently than usual and to clean and disinfect regularly touched surfaces.
Steve Denton also stated that NTU will not tolerate any violence shown as a result of the outbreak.
“We are aware of reports in the press about incidents of unacceptable behaviour towards people of Chinese origin since the outbreak of the virus.
“NTU is an inclusive and diverse community and we are proud of that and such behaviour will not be tolerated.”
Any updates surrounding coronavirus at NTU will be announced promptly on NTU’s official social media channels, and on the MyNTU dashboard for students.
