NTU’s Vice President for Community and Welfare has launched her annual Movember campaign to raise awareness for male mental health.
Zoë Mallett, 22, announced she will be drawing a moustache on her face every day in November to campaign for male mental health and prostate cancer awareness.
This follows her success last year where she raised £550 for the charity.
NTSU’s VP Community and Welfare said: “I’m doing this as I know many men struggle with their mental health and the stigma around it.
“I want to show that as a female I’m here to support them and even though I can’t truly understand what it’s like being a man, I want to help as much as I can raise awareness and help men get the support they need and deserve.
“I’m showing my support for Movember and all the men it can affect.”
‘Movember’ was first launched in 2003 in Australia when two friends, Travis Garone and Luke Slattery, wanted to see whether they could make a moustache fashionable again.
17 years later and over six million people to date have taken part in the initiative, raising enough money to fund over 1,250 men’s charities.
Zoë is also doing the 30 day challenge with NTU economics student Jake Staples, 19, who will grow a real moustache for the month.
He said: “I’m doing it because men everywhere struggle and I know how that feels, so I’m doing this challenge to show my support to Movember as a charity and men all around the world.”
The pair will also be doing 60 sit ups, press ups, star jumps and burpees to raise money.
