A Pro-EU rally was held at Nottingham’s Speaker’s Corner today, to get support for remaining in the European Union.
This comes after EU Chief Negotiator Michel Barnier declared on Thursday that negotiation talks with the UK are at a ‘deadlock’.
This is one of twelve rallies taking place in European Parliamentary Constituencies across the country, organised by the Lincolnshire branch of the European European Movement.
Speaker George Smid, Liberal Democrats Candidate for South Holland and Deepings, said:
“[There is] one-third of people who don’t know what Brexit, one-third who vote against leaving, and one-third who don’t even know if they want Brexit.
“And if we do want to stay in the EU, we have to have change things.
“I don’t think anyone now believes straight bananas, 350 million pounds for NHS, or any of the lies, misgivings or false info from the EU campaign.
“But still after all these months when the pound plummeted, our trade down, living standards went down and our manufacturing reduced, we still believe in Brexit.
“We have to change the perception of what leaving means and what Brexit means.”
Other speakers included Kat Boettge, Green Party Candidate for Nottingham East and Kimberley Town Councillor, Joan Pons-Laplana, transformation nurse at James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Michael Mullaney, Liberal Democrat Leicestershire County Councillor.
