With over 70,000 students spread across the campuses of the two universities that it accommodates, Nottingham is definitely one of the UK’s biggest student hubs.
Living in such a buzzing city can be quite overwhelming, especially when it comes to keeping up with the latest news and events.
To make it easier for you to keep up to date with everything student-related happening in our city, here’s a guide to the Trent student media.
Platform Magazine
Platform Magazine is NTU’s award-winning student magazine that covers all areas from news and sports to music, culture and entertainment, fashion, travel and lifestyle, and even creative pieces.
While there are three print editions every year (the next one coming on all NTU campuses really soon, so keep an eye out for that), Platform’s website is always available to everyone.
We provide students with up-to-date coverage on all things Trent, including live blogs of important events happening in the city, reviews, travel guides, and lifestyle pieces that are going to make your student life that little bit more enjoyable.
You can also get involved yourself in helping Nottingham students stay up to date with everything happening in our city by joining the society for just £5 per academic year.
Here is what Platform’s Deputy Editor Katie Green had to say about it: “Since joining Platform in year one, it’s built up both my confidence as a writer and a person.
“I’ve been able to build myself up as a writer, the culture and entertainment editor and now the deputy editor.
“If I want to be a journalist in the future, my work at Platform is going to make me stand out and I’m so glad I made it a part of my university experience.”
Fly Live
Broadcasting to all three NTU campuses to over 30,000 students, Fly Live definitely represents “the sound of NTU”.
Having been on air every term time day since 2007, the Fly Live team cover various events, like the NTSU Elections or Varsity, as well as starting important conversations among students regarding topics like consent through various campaigns like “#TrentConsent”.
For just £7 per academic year, you can get yourself involved by having your own radio show, creating a podcast, or joining the tech or marketing teams.
Here is what Fly Live’s Deputy Station Manager Imogen Brewer had to say about being part of the team: “Fly is such good experience for anybody interested in radio!
“Not only does it develop your confidence, but also your vital media skills and creativity!
“I can’t imagine doing anything else.”
Trent TV
Finally, we have Trent TV, NTU’s very own TV station and seven-time National Student Television Association winners.
Their content varies from festival coverage and music videos to panel shows, sports highlights, and news features.
All of their content can be watched on their Facebook page here.
Trent TV is also a great opportunity for all camera and tech lovers, so whether you are interested in being a runner, camera operator, presenter, producer, or just coming up with content ideas feel welcome to join, the membership is just £5.
Here is what Pete Trifunovic, Head of Sport, had to say about his experience with Trent TV: “Trent TV is great to join for anyone, no matter their past experience.
“I’ve learnt so much over my two years with Trent TV already and made great friends in the process too!”
