If you want to know who your favourite actor, singer or sportsperson has voted for this election then you’re likely in luck as celebrity after celebrity has been announcing their voting intentions over social media. Here are some of those who have endorsed Biden and Harris or Trump and Pence:
For Biden
Taylor Swift
The multi-award winning singer remained silent as to her political views in the 2016 presidential election but broke that silence during the 2018 midterm elections to endorse two Tennessee Democrat candidates. Since then Swift has continued to publicly speak out about her beliefs endorsing Biden and Harris, and even allowing her song ‘Only the Young’ to be used in a political advert.
Michelle Kwan
In 2016 the retired figure skater worked on Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, saying that supporting Clinton was a ‘no-brainer’ for her. Kwan was an early supporter of Biden’s campaign, endorsing him as early as April 2019 before he was elected as the Democrat presidential nominee.
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson
This election has been the first in which Johnson has publicly endorsed a candidate. Having voted for both Democrat and Republican candidates in the past and abstaining in the 2016 election. This year however he has chosen to endorse Biden and Harris, even going as far as to describing Vice-Presidential candidate Harris as a ‘certified badass.’
Karlie Kloss
Despite being married to Jared Kushner’s brother Joshua, supermodel Karlie Kloss has continued to endorse Democrat candidates. Just last week she posted a selfie of herself wearing a Biden/Harris facemask with the hashtags #voteBLUE and #scienceoverfiction. Not sure what dinner with the Kushners will be like in the future.
Lin Manuel Miranda
The Hamilton creator has been highly critical of Trump throughout his presidency, especially in relation to the handling of Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria. Miranda endorsed Biden earlier this year and said that he believes American democracy itself is at stake in this election.
For Trump
Kirstie Alley
The actress best known for her role in the sitcom Cheers has endorsed Trump both this year and in 2016. Although she later retracted her 2016 endorsement, in October this year she tweeted in support of him and following this has repeatedly stated her intention to vote for him.
Stacey Dash
Having switched her party affiliation from Democrat to Republican in 2012 the Clueless actress has endorsed successive Republican candidates. She even announced her intention to run as Republican candidate in California’s 44th congressional district in the 2018 Congressional Election however she dropped out before the election took place. Dash currently has #MAGA and #WomenForTrump in her twitter bio, making her views pretty clear.
Dean Cain
Best known for his role as Superman in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, actor Dean Cain has previously endorsed both Democrat and Republican presidential candidates. Since 2008 however he only supported Republican candidates. In recent years Cain has made numerous appearances on Fox News and has been highly critical of the Democrat party.
Kristy Swanson
The Buffy the Vampire Slayer actress tweeted in 2017 that she has always been a proud Republican. In March of this she posted a picture of herself with Trump saying it was honour to meet him, and throughout the year has been tweeting about her plans to vote for him a second time. Swanson has claimed that both she and Cain have received death threats due to their support of Trump.
Isaiah Washington
Not one to shy away from controversy, former Grey’s Anatomy star Isaiah Washington endorsed Trump after ‘walking-away’ from the Democrat party due to his belief they aren’t doing enough for Black people. Washington has been seen as a relatively controversial figure since 2007 when he was fired from Grey’s Anatomy due to his alleged use of homophobic slurs in reference to another actor on the show.
These are not all of the celebrities who have endorsed these candidates as there are many many more, some have also endorsed third party or independent candidates. Kanye West even endorsed himself!
Do you care who your favourite singer votes for, or do you think it’s irrelevant to your enjoyment of them?
