West Nottinghamshire College, Mansfield’s main educational provision young people over 14, has announced a new partnership with Nottingham Trent University.
Higher Education learners from the Mansfield and Ashfield area will be pleased to hear of the new partnership between the college and Nottingham Trent University, allowing home-living students to receive the same high-quality courses provided by NTU without having to move to a university campus.
The college, which was issued a Financial Health Notice to Improve by the Education & Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) in 2018, received a report from company DND2, the college’s main partner for it’s University Centre.
As reported by FE Week, the report stated it would ‘increase it’s number of students by just 140 in 2019/20, instead of its original estimate of 589’.
The introduction of the new partnership with NTU is said to be exciting for the college and will be a new chapter for the university centre.
Professor Edward Peck, Vice Chancellor of NTU stated “Not only will we be offering education that will support and shape a prosperous future for the local economy, this development will enable us to play a role in creating initiatives that will transform the towns over the next ten years”.
The courses that will be offered to students include both full and foundation degrees that will allow local residents to continue their professional development.
Students at the University Centre will also have access to NTU’s student services, as well as membership to Nottingham Trent’s Student’s Union, and its societies.
The college will also be partnering with Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Trust, to offer courses in nursing and other health courses through Sutton in Ashfield’s Kingsmill Hospital.
Andrew Cropley, Principal and Chief Executive of West Nottinghamshire College, stated “the combination of sincere community outreach, high-quality teaching, and strong focus on progression to employment aligns very closely with our vision and makes them a great partner.”
“Furthermore, the partnership will provide enhanced opportunities for our own students to progress into quality higher education,” he added.
