A CBJ Christmas clash ended in a dominant 14-4 win for BA Journalism over friendly neighbours Broadcast Journalism.
The contest took place at the excellent Forest Recreation Ground facilities on Wednesday, December, 14.
Journalism co-captains, Jonny Greatrex and Gianluca Spataro, led their team out in fine fashion.
The first 45 minutes saw BAJ assert their dominance with goals from Oli Barnard and Oscar Dickson.
Broadcast failed to contain BAJ’s attack – winger Gianluca Spataro got in behind the opposition’s defence on multiple occasions in the opening 10 minutes.
BAJ assistant manager Eleanor Lawrence expressed her excitement with her squads victory.
She said: “Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way, oh what fun it is to see Journos win away.”
Broadcast captain Luke Rolt was a standout for his side, scoring one of his side’s four goals.
Left-sided attacker Oli Barnard stole the show causing havoc from the first to the final whistle.
BAJ’s Barnard, Josh Hearn and Dickson all came away with hat-tricks.
Unfortunately, there were not enough match balls to be taken home for each hat-trick hero – although sharing is caring.
The contest was incredibly competitive – although BAJ forward Jonny Greatrex did switch allegiance halfway through the first 45.
An unconventional move, but here at Platform Magazine we admire the sportsmanship.
Co-captain Gianluca Spataro scored a brace for his side, slotting his first goal low into the left-hand corner.
Fin Smith was a magician in midfield, displaying his excellent vision to provide assists throughout while grabbing two goals himself.
Not to forget centre-back Danny Godfrey, who added his name to the scoresheet by scoring BAJ’s 14th goal of the match.
A day to forget, then, for Broadcast and one to reminisce on for BAJ.
BAJ take the bragging rights into the newsroom for 2023.
Let’s see what this year brings in more CBJ head-to-heads.
