Nottingham Trent University will look to win their third successive Varsity football match against rivals University of Nottingham as the teams face off on the final day of the 2024 series.
NTU will be looking to overturn the current 4-3 scoreline of this years Varsity series with UoN coming out on top in both men’s and women’s volleyball on Tuesday night.
The series still hangs in the balance with all still to play for and Trent trying to eran their first Varsity crown since 2011.
In University of Nottingham menās 1st last game, they lost away to Chichester in the National Championships Quarter-Final.
Nottingham Trent also lost to UONās latest opponents on penalties in the National Championships Semi-Final.
After a goal at the death last year sent the ties to penalties, UONās captain Tom Howard is looking to right the wrongs of last yearās derby.
He said: āObviously last year was a huge disappointment and a painful pill to swallow.
āHowever, we showed our capabilities and were unlucky to lose.
āOur approach remains the same, we believe our hard work in training will pay off and like I said, last year we showed we can turn up to the occasion and hopefully this year will end differently.ā
NTU captain Tom Cursons converted a crucial penalty in last yearās Varsity and heās hoping they maintain their good record against their rivals.
He said: āWe definitely take confidence from last year’s win.
āWeāve played two matches against them this season too which weāve won and kept two clean sheets so thereās reason to be confident.
āOn the flip side of that, they wonāt want to lose three on the bounce so weāre well aware that theyāre going to come out swinging and weāre going to have to be at our best to lift the trophy again.ā
The tie takes place on March 12, 2024, at 2:30pm held at Greenwich Avenue, the home of Basford United FC.
