From NTU to Wales Rugby team: Ellis Mee looks right at home in first cap for national side

Nottingham Trent University student Ellis Mee has impressed in his national team debut as Wales lost to Ireland on Saturday.

Just last year, the 21-year-old was playing in the second tier of English rugby for Nottingham and has since burst onto the scene for the dragons’ rugby union side.

Mee was spotted by former Wales player James Davies who is recruitment and operations officer at Welsh side Scarlets.

Mee, who studies Sport and Fitness Management at NTU, first attracted interest from Nottingham Rugby after impressing for the university side.

After winning the players’ and supporters’ player of the season awards, the Nottingham native signed a three-year deal with United Rugby Championship side Scarlets.

Mee has gone onto compete in the European Challenge Cup for the Scarlets and has looked a promising prospect for the side this season.

The wing-back looked solid for the Wales side as he made two clean line breaks and was unlucky not to score a finish in the last minutes of a tantalising Test match.

Mee certainly set down a marker in the game with the NTU player expected to gain more respect in the coming days as he showed signs of becoming a national team regular.

Wales pushed Ireland but the visitors ran out deserved 27-18 winners but were threatened by the dragons throughout.

The home side showed more passion than in their opening two Championship games as they look to build on the display in their next trip to Scotland.
