The field hockey varsity matches, due to take place on January 31, have been adjourned.
Both men’s and women’s hockey teams were due to play against teams from the University of Nottingham at the Nottingham Hockey Centre on Thursday evening.
A pitch inspection took place at midday on Wednesday and found that the playing surface and surrounding area had frozen over, making it hazardous and unplayable.
With colder temperatures and snowfall expected tomorrow, officials decided that there was little chance of the pitch thawing in time and have therefore cancelled tomorrow’s games.
A spokesperson for The Hockey Centre said: “It has been cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.
“The water based pitch is freezing, lower temperatures are coming and snow on top of that during the event predicted.
“In the interest of spectator, player and staff safety, the venue made a call at 12 today that the event will not be going ahead.”
A rearranged date for both fixtures is yet to be decided.
