We’re ploughing on with our whistlestop tour this week of NTU’s amazing sports clubs, and today we’ll be finding out about NTU Women’s Cricket.
As one of the younger clubs in NTU’s wide sporting roster, Women’s Cricket is a really exciting collective with big plans for 2022-23 to expand membership and take their game to the next level.
On the back of the City Sports Freshers Fair yesterday (Wednesday 21st), let’s keep the momentum going by giving you the full lowdown on what NTU Women’s Cricket are all about!
Q: Who are your key committee members?
A: Chloe Tamana and Georgia Phillips are both working together this year as our committee.
Q: How many teams do you have?
A: We have one team, which is developmental and open to all abilities. We hope to build on this and grow the society to have more than one team in the following years.
Q: When and where do you play?
A: In the winter, we train indoors at Clifton campus to prepare for the BUCS league, and in summer, we train at Clifton campus outdoors.
Q: What did you achieve in 2021-22?
A: We were newly developing last year. We hope to achieve some great things this year!
Q: What are your main aims for this year?
A: We aim to recruit as many players as possible this year and grow the team. We want to expand the women’s cricket society, creating a developmental team that enjoys training, matches and socials together.
Q: If you had to sum up what you offer to members in three words, what would it be?
A: Fun, competitive and sociable!
On top of all this great work achieved on the pitch, NTU Women’s Cricket are also extremely active off it.
Their social media pages are highly active, with updates about games, training, amazing initiatives involving members and crossovers with other societies.
They held social events with NTU Canoe, a skill swap with NTU Handball, and supported CoppaFeel and the #girlsnightinnottingham protest among other campaigns last year.
With several friendlies held last year, the hope now is to expand the scope of the team and take on even more teams from an ever-expanding women’s cricket scene.
If you’re interested in getting involved, NTU Women’s Cricket are holding a free taster session on October 7 at the Lee Westwood Sports Centre on Clifton Campus.
Times are 4-5pm for new students and 5-6pm for existing club members.
