Nottingham Trent University (NTU) women’s basketball 1s dominated on the road against University of East Anglia (UEA) Women’s 1s with an 83-28 victory.
NTU came out energised despite their long journey applying a relentless full-court press that held UEA to just one basket in the first quarter.
NTU’s defense was synchronised and stifling, setting the tone for a dominant performance.
NTU’s offense found its rhythm in the second quarter moving the ball rapidly and forcing UEA to scramble defensively.
NTU had built a commanding lead by half time, heading into the locker room up 45-10.
The lead allowed NTU to play a more unselfish third quarter, where every player looked to assist their teammates, showcasing the team’s unity and depth.
UEA put up a stronger defensive stand in the fourth, managing to keep NTU from scoring for six and a half minutes.
But their late-game surge proved too little, too late as NTU secured a comfortable win.
The result keeps NTU on a promising path for the season as they anticipate the home court advantage in their next matchup against UEA.
Co-captain Maleah Turner praised the team’s effort, she said: “The win today was a good team win, and we got to showcase some things we’ve been practising.”
The team’s point guard Jordan Malone added: “Games like this allow us to recognise our weaknesses and improve and to identify our strengths to capitalise on as a unit.”
NTU looks forward to maintaining their momentum as they prepare for the next two weeks at home.
