South Africa vs Uganda

South Africa dominate Uganda in opening game of Netball Nations Cup in Nottingham

South Africa were dominant in their opening game of the Netball Nations Cup at Nottingham’s Motorpoint Arena.

The Vitality Netball Nations Cup returned to Nottingham with the tournament being played between world number two England, South Africa who are fifth in the world, and Uganda and Malawi who are sixth and seventh in the world respectively.

The two part series kicked off in Nottingham today with South Africa playing Uganda before England’s Vitality Roses played Malawi.

The Spar Proteas took the lead inside the first minute and the world number fives didn’t look back as they continued to extend their lead.

Uganda did see a small fightback thwarted in the opening quarter as despite cutting South Africa’s lead to just four goals, the She-Cranes were pegged back to 19-13 at the end of the first 15 minutes.

South Africa were again free-flowing in the second quarter as they took charge and gained full control at half time.

The Spar Proteas showed no sign of slowing down as they gained a 20-goal buffer in the third quarter as they led world number six Uganda 51-31.

South Africa again dominated in the final quarter as they pushed on to gain an opening win of 70 goals to Uganda’s 45.

Next week, the teams travel to London to finish the series.
