On Monday 30 April 2018, Nottingham Trent University’s undefeated Muay Thai team will face off against UoN in the first ever stand-alone Thai Boxing Varsity event.
Hundreds of spectators are expected to fill Studio 7 on UoN grounds to see an amazing roster of fighters compete in the art of 8 limbs.
NTUs own Sam Bartholomew is sure to be an exciting fight after training hard since his loss last year, coming in this year with his 30-interclub fight experience.
“The fact we have our very own stand-alone event speaks volumes for the club to be honest”
– Faysal Mohammed
The event last year took place on a Super Wednesday and saw a remarkable 55 second knock-out for Trent’s Ed Scase in the Heavyweight bout.
This final fight of the day saw Trent maintain their undefeated streak.
Speaking ahead of the event on Monday, President and competitor Alex Davison said: “Everyone has been constantly training, we’ve even got five fighters who will be competing for very the first time.
“In fact, we’ve actually got our first female fighter, Lavinia Leopardi, so we have made some huge developments this year.
“This year we have our own dedicated event, but they have the home advantage, so it’s going to be a very close show considering they will be coming in after losing the past two years!”

Faysal Mohammed, who is the club Treasurer, will also be fighting.
He said: “The fact we have our own stand-alone event speaks volumes for the club to be honest.
“We started with about 15 people, now we have over 100 coming in, so it’s a huge development.
“It’s a great sport to take part in and watch, you know, there’s not as many rules as you can use various fighting techniques like head kicks.
“It’s going to be a good night.”
Tickets are on sale now for £8 and are sure to sell out soon ahead of the event, and can be purchased from the Trent students website.
Doors will open at 6:30pm
