After another week of big Wednesday wins for Trent, we look at more BUCS highlights – with the Women’s Basketball seconds smashing a victory against their local rivals, and Women’s Rugby firsts securing a victory in the final moments of their battle against Warwick…
Women’s Basketball:
Trent’s second team dominated the derby against their local rivals, the University of Nottingham.
The away side claimed the Jubilee Sports Centre with 75 goals to 33, with top scorer, Georgia Stanbrook sinking 21 points past the home team.
The team head into the Christmas break sitting at third place in the Midlands 3B league.
Women’s Rugby:
The first team secured a big Wednesday win against The University of Warwick, having suffered a defeat to them just last week in the Midlands Conference Cup.
Trent once again had to travel away to Warwick’s stadium, the Cryfield Pavilion, this time for a league match.
“We focused our training on areas that were weak, with a determination to win this week’s match.” NTU Women’s Rugby
Trent dominated at the start, with Molly Stewart scoring the first try, soon followed by Daisy Parker after some brilliant tactical play.
The team said: “During the second half the weather conditions worsened, but that didn’t stop us from playing some excellent rugby.”
Moments into the second half, Becky Pinnell scored the third try, making the score 19-15. The game was tight and depended on who scored the last try.
Mollie Bracewell was called into action and scored the crucial final try in the closing moments of the game.
“The girls played some excellent rugby, showing great determination, really working as a team and got the result they deserved.” NTU Women’s Rugby
They currently sit at fifth in the league.
