Nottingham Trent’s first team were up against Worcester this week, who were top of the league. It was going to be a tough match and the girls knew they had to win if they had a chance of winning the league and securing themselves a place in the Premiership next year.
The first quarter started off tight, with both sides taking goals from their own centre pass. However, Trent found their footing and became a force to be reckoned with.
Captain, Susie Armstrong worked beautifully with Freya Wood in defence, making it 22 – 7 to Trent at the end of the first quarter. At this point, the girls were thinking a win was in the bag, but from first-hand experience, they knew that it wasn’t going to be that simple.
Worcester came out fighting in the second quarter and their GA didn’t miss a goal. At halftime Trent were up 36-16 but Worcester kept the girls on their toes.
Head Coach, Louise made some changes at halftime, bringing on a new GS, who put some excellent shots up, keeping Trent ahead.
In the final quarter, Trent’s fitness and quality of play allowed them to pull away massively. They won the game, 70 – 40, putting them second in the league behind local rivals, The University of Nottingham.
Player of the match went to GK, Freya Wood, who played a blinder of a game in defence, intercepting most balls that came into the D.
“I couldn’t be happier with the win and I’m looking forward to facing Uni of Notts again to fight for the top of the league spot.” Susie Armstrong, NTU’s first team captain
Second team
Trent’s second team, unfortunately, didn’t have such a great result and lost their match against Leicester University, 56-47. This has moved them down to third in the league.
Third team
The third team celebrated their win against top of the league team, Oxford Brookes. Everyone gave 100 per cent in their game and they won 52 – 38 which put them top of the league.
Fourth team
Fours also played, winning their game 56-16 against Warwick giving them a huge goal difference over everyone else in the league.
