After a fourth place finish last year, Trent were out for success in the biggest University Touch Rugby Tournament in the country.
On the 28th of October the First Team started the process of this perfectly by winning the first round of the North competition!
At the Riverside Sports Complex, 20 teams showed up to compete in the first round of the Championships.
In Trent 1’s pool was Birmingham 2’s, Nottingham 1’s, Manchester Met 2’s and Loughborough 2’s.
After winning all of these pool games, focus turned to the semi-finals against Durham 2’s.
Durham got the first try but Trent replied in fast fashion with Lottie Saunders and Sophie Lloyd scoring a try each before the half time mark.
Ben Grinter, Trentās vice captain and last yearās UTC Player of the Season, scored the first try to start off the second half and from there Trent kept scoring, securing a comfortable 7-4 win, securing their place in the finals against Loughborough 1’s.
Loughborough 1’s won the North Round last year and came second in the national standings, thus Trent knew this would be a great challenge for them, but had confidence in themselves.
Loughborough started quickly and stole the first point of the game but again, Trent didnāt let them stay on top for long as Ria Plunkett and Lottie Saunders scored before half time.
Ria scored again along with Jake Morris and Jared Lewis, ending the game in style for a convincing 5-2 win in the final.
Trent lift the trophy for Round 1 North of the University To
ch Championships so now the attention turns to the next round and the national rounds later in the season.
Trent 2’s came 12th place and their very own Ruby Richardson won female MVP.
