Thousands of people have been affected after Snapchat service went down earlier today, on April 8.
The popular chat app suffered an outage earlier this morning before falling victim to another moment of downtime this afternoon.
Snapchat informed users they were addressing the situation, tweeting: “We’re aware many Snapchatters are having trouble using the app. Hang tight – we’re looking into it.”
Data from independent website DownDetector showed thousands of users as reporting being unable to send chat messages or struggling to log-in.
They reported that at the peak of the issue, shortly after 3.30pm, over 33,000 issues had been raised.
Of the data collected, 76% of problems reported were with the sending of snaps. Other issues raised were receiving snaps or refreshing, and taking pictures or video.
In relation to the problems affected this morning, more than 1,500 people raised issues.
The hashtag ‘snapchatdown’ began trending on Twitter as more than 56,000 posts brought the app’s problems to a global audience.
Snapchat reported a record-high level of usage over the past month, suggesting the app has become a popular communication essential while the world is under lockdown due to coronavirus.
