The 72nd Emmy awards was a virtual affair this year where televisions finest celebrities graced phone screens and laptops rather than the distant red carpet.
Without the fear of bad paparazzi photos and long stairways, the biggest night in television saw some nominees dare to showcase their most outrageous, extravagant , beautiful looks to date whilst other ominous outfits made us thankful for the socially distanced display.
Nominees such as Regina King, Billy Porter and Shira Haas were not held back by the size of the phone screen and shone on the virtual carpet; embodying the luxury of the sought -after designers they were dressed in.
Zendaya in Christopher John Rogers
The purple, iridescent tulip shape to Zendaya’s powerfully structured dress predicted her to bloom, with it’s one-of-a-kind feel reflecting her history making night by being the youngest female to win outstanding lead actress in a drama series for Euphoria.
The youthful glow of the dress shone through her dewy makeup and velvety sleek hair whilst the black sophisticated shoulders encasing her Bulgari necklace embodied Zendaya’s maturity and success.
Billy Porter wearing Aschi Studio
Billy Porter never disappoints when it comes to ground breaking garments and this look is no exception.
Draped in crisp fabric like a Greek god; his suit is powerful yet glamorous and certainly exudes the persona of someone nominated for outstanding actor in a drama series.
Porter was dripping in Lorraine Schwartz jewellery which created an edge to the fragility of the sweeping suit.
Yara Shahidi in Prada
It seems Yara Shahidi is embracing the crystal hype this year, allowing her natural beauty to shine through in this glistening Prada gown.
Black feathering framed Shahidi’s intricate hair braids permitting for the timeless silhouette to act more playful ; an optical illusion that is noting but beautiful.
Jennifer Aniston in John Galliano for Dior
Although Jennifer Aniston does look timeless in her sultry slip, the look can’t help but feel safe compared to the shocking silhouettes and beautiful embellishments we’ve seen other nominees embrace.
Her tousled hair appears to be more of a lockdown length where unfortunately the look reflects her falling short in the outstanding actress in a drama series category.
Tracee Ellis Ross in Alexandre Vauthier
Tracee Ellis Ross has to be commended for embodying the Emmy’s trophy with this metallic ruffle rendezvous, however the tiered gown could mistake her for being early to the Christmas party.
Ross, who was nominated for outstanding lead actress in a comedy series, certainly expressed the fun and humour of the category whilst understated vintage Tiffany’s jewellery matched her more simplistic up-do.
Shira Haas in Chanel Couture
‘Love at first sight’ is how the ‘Unorthodox’ star described this organza and chiffon look and we couldn’t agree more.
Fragile garden flowers and crystals adorn the stain-glass inspired dress whilst a chunky Chanel belt creates a contrast in texture and tone between the bodice and skirt.
Her on-trend low sleek bun allows for Chanel chandelier jewels to shine and imitate the dewy glow of her skin; fresh and youthful like the cloister garden it was inspired by.
