‘Heaven’ – Niall Horan’s single review

The long-awaited era of #NH3 has finally arrived with the release of Horan’s new single ‘Heaven’.

After a three year gap from the music world, Niall returned with the news that all his fans were waiting for: a third album.

Titled ‘The Show’, ‘Heaven’ is the first single drop before the album is unveiled to all listeners on June, 9.

With an upbeat tempo and bold baseline throughout the song, it is hard not to sing and dance to.

Listening to the opening verse, it’s clear that the musician is pouring out his deep emotions and feelings of love and admiration for some kind of ethereal being.

‘Strange light revolves around you…You float across the room…Your touch is made of something…Heaven can’t hold a candle to…You’re made of something new…’

As the song continues with sweet, airy harmonies and percussion, predominant when the chorus returns, it is apparent that this tune will be a hit at festivals Horan is set to play this summer, including the Isle of Wight Festival and Pink Pop Festival.

Avid fans have even seen similarities between Horan’s new single and Harry Styles’ song ‘Grapejuice’, with several TikTok videos merging the beginning of both songs together and speculating some sort of collaboration between the ex-One Direction members.

‘Heaven’ marks a new creative partnership for Horan with producer Joel Little, alongside long-term co-writers, John Ryan and Tobias Jesso Jr.

Running up to the release of the single, Horan posted a heart-warming video on his social media platforms of him reading out a sweet love letter to his loyal fans.

Beginning with ‘Hello lovers, long time no see’, he thanked them for sticking with him throughout his hiatus: ‘…thank you so much for being patient with me. I’ve spent the last 18 months or so working on the next record…’.

This is the longest break from the music world he has had since his days in One Direction.

With his second record ‘Heartbreak Weather’ released on the day that the UK went into COVID lockdown, and the accompanying tour being cancelled, dates for a UK and Ireland Tour for ‘The Show’ are set to be released at a later date.

Fans have been promised early access to concert tickets if they pre-order his upcoming album – with his website stating that they will be given a ‘ticket pre-sale code for forthcoming and yet to be announced UK and Ireland tour dates.’

Horan states that the new record means a lot to him: ‘…it is a reflection of where I am in my life today, as a person, a musician, and of course, as a songwriter.’

A little anxious to release music after a long period of time away he continued: ‘Can’t say I’m not a little nervous, but hopefully you’ll still like this version of me when you listen to the new record….Welcome to The Show.’

‘Heaven’ is available to stream on all platforms now.
