The Illicits have returned with their new single Feel It. Music editor, Louise Walt, was able to have a conversation with George Richards, the lead singer. Discussing the new single, tour announcements and what exciting things the future holds for the band….
Louise: How was Feel It created in the studios and what inspired this rock tune?
George: Feel It epitomises the bands influence of early 60’s rock n roll, punk licks coupled with an unvarnished but undeniably honest view of their surroundings. The stomping rhythm and punk production helps conjure up familiar Lancashire moods- cold early morning walks, rain soaked shoes and slow clattering commutes on buses and trains.
Louise: How did you come up with the lyrics?
George: The lyrics centre around how people around us speak, referencing a well-known Lancastrian phrase “but you have to keep on” despite modern day life struggles. There is also reference to local landmarks such as Winter Hill and a natural rebelliousness against those who have let the industry around them fall in decline.
Louise: How do you feel about performing at Rough Trade in Nottingham later this month?
George: We’re hugely excited to be making our debut in Nottingham at such a well known and prestigious venue. We’ve heard great things and we can’t wait to show Nottingham what we’re about.
